New I-9 form

A new Form I-9 was released on November 14, 2016. This is an employment eligibility verification form that all employers must complete for each employee hired.

While the form doesn't become mandatory until January 22, 2017, you should begin using the new Form I-9 immediately for all new hires and for any reverifications. You can download the form and get more information at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website at www.uscis.gov/i-9-central. Click the red download button on the left side at the bottom of the column.

The revised Form I-9 is easier to complete on a computer and should reduce the likelihood of employer errors. It has prompts to help ensure that information is entered properly, including drop-down menus for dates and instructions. There is now a dedicated area for including additional information that was previously required to be noted in the margins. The completed form must still be printed, signed, and retained as electronic signatures are not accepted.
